Reviews of the Movie, A Real Pain

The Movie, A Real Pain is scheduled at our Cinema tonite, at 7PM. I am planning to watch it. It has excellent reviews and the music is almost all classical Chopin music.  The following are two of several 4-5 stars critics review. “A Real Pain” has earned the following two Oscar nominations:

Best supporting actor, Kieran Culkin

Best original screenplay

Read this review if you are not concerned about a Spoiler Alert!

" A Real Pain is a lovely story of estranged cousins reconnecting after the death of their Polish grandmother by of taking a trip to Poland on a guided tour. The leads are played by Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin. Benji (Culkin) is a free spirit with a warm and honest sense of humor who is confident and funny, and while these traits are organic to his personality he uses these traits to cover up the pain and sadness that lies within him. David (Eisenberg) a father and husband with a career who is uncomfortable with emotion but has a big heart who cares deeply about his cousin.

Although cousins they feel like great friends from childhood that took different paths and through a tragic event find the oppurtune time to reconnect. I related to both characters. Benji in that he is well practiced at masking his pain through humor so that he doesn't have to talk about it and David, in that although I'm not married and don't have kids I took the safe career path which provides a level of security but have found there's a longing for more from life.

The setting of Poland is shot beautifully and the tour locations are appropriate in helping the characters grieve and deal w their inner turmoil. The side characters in the tour group feel like real people you would meet on a tour like this. Nothing in the film feels forced, especially there not being a contrived love story which often happens in films of similar themes and ultimately detracts from the central story.

The glue of the film is the score. Instead of using contemporary pop music, the music is classical, primarily Chopin, is tonally perfect and doesn't overshadow the story but matches the mood of the characters melancholy. The movie perfectly bookends itself and doesnt have the typical tie up the bow ending. Eisenberg's direction, the acting (especially Culkin) and all other technical aspects of the film are superb and were handled w care. Theres a perfect blend of humor and inner sadness that looms over the central characters. I would recommend this film to anyone, especially families and most especially families of Jewish heritage. Hats off to Eisenberg on his directorial debut. 5/5

Here's Another Review:

A Real Pain explores the concept of pain in a nuanced way: the pain of losing a loved one, the pain of dealing with a challenging family member, and the generational pain of having a family’s future stolen. The film captures how different people cope with these pains: David, Benji, the other tour participants, and even the tour guide, as they confront the events of the Holocaust, visit a Polish Jewish cemetery, and tour the Majdanek concentration camp. The message is clear: to cope with pain healthily, we must face it head-on in our own way. This journey of confronting pain is essential for building our resilience and strength.

Pain is what connects us to our humanity, reminding us that we are truly alive. During the trip, Benji recounts a painful memory: their grandmother once slapped him in a New York City restaurant because he arrived late for dinner. She had dressed up for the occasion, and the public slap left Benji feeling real pain. However, he acknowledges that this act of accountability, though hurtful, came from a place of love. Benji yearns for this kind of tough love from others, particularly from David. He craves someone who can hold him back from his impulsive tendencies, showing him care and affection in the process.

A poignant moment in the film occurs when David and Benji visit their late grandmother’s former house in Poland. The home is now owned by another family, and any traces of the Kaplans’ presence have long vanished. In a touching gesture, David places a stone in front of the house to honor their grandmother’s memory. However, the moment takes a humorous yet bittersweet turn when an elderly Polish man chastises them. He misunderstands their intention, believing the stone was placed maliciously to cause harm to the current elderly resident. Despite their efforts to explain the Jewish tradition of placing stones as a memorial to remember their deceased grandmother, the older man remains unconvinced despite his son’s English to Polish translation of their reasoning for having placed the stone there. Feeling awkward about the entire encounter, David and Benji decide to take the stone with them when they leave Poland.

In a beautifully symbolic gesture upon his return to New York, David later places the stone at the entrance of his Brooklyn home, where he lives with his wife and child. This act underscores the universal idea that “home is where the heart is.” While the memory of the family’s life in Poland has faded, their grandmother’s legacy endures. Her journey as an immigrant to America, striving to build a new life for her family while preserving her Jewish identity, continues to inspire her descendants, including David and Benji.

As the film concludes, the audience is left wondering about the futures of David and Benji’s relationship and their individual paths. The heritage trip and their shared memories of their grandmother seem to strengthen their bond. The film suggests that, despite their differences, family is ultimately the one thing you can rely upon in life. While Benji and David drive each other crazy, they also admire and need each other. The hope is that they will continue to support one another, bringing balance to each other’s lives with David finding more spontaneity and emotional authenticity, and Benji discovering greater stability and purpose.

Hundreds of same-sex couples are tying the knot across Thailand today as the country becomes the first in Southeast Asia to recognize marriage equality. The landmark bill marks a momentous win for the LGBTQ+ community, which has fought for more than a decade for the same marriage rights as heterosexual couples. Under the legislation, passed by Thailand's parliament and endorsed by the king last year, same-sex couples are now able to register their marriages with full legal, financial, and medical rights, as well as adoption and inheritance rights.

Landscaping of the Main House of Chateau Du Mer- Philippines

Three weeks ago, my three grandchildren ( Philip, Alix and Marina)  enjoyed a one week vacation on my island Paradise in the Philippines - the Beautiful island of Marinduque-Heart of the Philippines.

https://chateaudumer.blogspot.com/2025/01/photos-of-my-grand-children-vacation-in.html

The Capital town of the island is Boac. This is the place where our retirement home and Beach House is located. From 2002 to 2020 my wife ( RIP) and I spent at least 3 months ( sometimes 4 months) every year during winter time here in the US. Thus, we called ourselves, snowbirds in the Philippines.

In 2016, we spent for 4 months instead of our standard 3 months stay. I had enough time to maximize the landscaping of the Main House, Beach House and Conference Center. I had 2 gardeners helped maintained the landscaping of the 2-acre front, side and backyard of the main house.

The following are some photos I took at that time. Note that there are no photos of the Beach house or Conference Center, as well as the inside of the Main House or the Conference Center. These are just photos of the front, side, and back of the main house.

Artificial Intelligence in Drug Discovery and Development

During one of our meal time conversations here at THD, a new resident asked me what I did prior to my retirement. I told her that prior to my retirement I was a Chemistry Team Leader in the Division of Anti-Infective Drugs Products, Centers New Drugs, Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Thus, I was involved with approval of new drugs and its development, primarily the Chemistry, Manufacturing and Control ( CMC) part of the development. https://chateaudumer.blogspot.com/2017/03/chemistry-manufacturing-and-controls.html

This smart newcomer then asked me what I know about AI ( Artifcial Intelligence) on drug discovery and Development.

My answer was NOTHING or NADA.  Thus, this posting on my current google search on the subject.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has recently started to gear-up its application in various sectors of the society with the pharmaceutical industry as a front-runner beneficiary. This review highlights the impactful use of AI in diverse areas of the pharmaceutical sectors viz., drug discovery and development, drug repurposing, improving pharmaceutical productivity, clinical trials, etc. to name a few, thus reducing the human workload as well as achieving targets in a short period. Crosstalk on the tools and techniques utilized in enforcing AI, ongoing challenges, and ways to overcome them, along with the future of AI in the pharmaceutical industry, is also discussed. The article below highlights the following:

  • 1. Artificial Intelligence (AI) has revolutionized many aspects of the pharmaceuticals.

  • 2. AI assistance to pharma industries helps to improve overall life cycle of product.

  • 3. AI can be implemented in pharma ranging from drug discovery to product management.

  • 4. Future challenges related to AI and their respective solutions have been expounded.

Conclusion: The advancement of AI, along with its remarkable tools, continuously aims to reduce challenges faced by pharmaceutical companies, impacting the drug development process along with the overall lifecycle of the product, which could explain the increase in the number of start-ups in this sector.  The current healthcare sector is facing several complex challenges, such as the increased cost of drugs and therapies, and society needs specific significant changes in this area.

With the inclusion of AI in the manufacturing of pharmaceutical products, personalized medications with the desired dose, release parameters, and other required aspects can be manufactured according to individual patient need .

Using the latest AI-based technologies will not only speed up the time needed for the products to come to the market, but will also improve the quality of products and the overall safety of the production process, and provide better utilization of available resources along with being cost-effective, thereby increasing the importance of automation.

The Annual Lobster Lunch at the WC Yacht Club Sea Food Restaurant

Our Annual Lobster Lunch sponsored by the Walnut Creek Yacht Club Sea Food Restaurant is scheduled for this coming Saturday, Jan 25. It is fully booked with several names in the waiting list.  The prepaid price of $35 is discounted as a thank you and gift to THD residents from the Sweinberg Family that own and manage the restaurant.  The Sweinberg parents used to be Residents of THD.  They also sponsored the annual Corn Hole Tournament for THD residents during summer.

Speaking of a $35 lobster lunch. I had a Lobster Dinner last Thursday with my son, Dodie at East Ocean Sea Food Restaurant at the Ignacio Plaza. It cost me twice as much, so the $35 prepaid price at WC Yacht Club is indeed a bargain.  Besides the Lobster, we had Calamari and Hot and Sour Soup.

Dodie and I had Dinner at East Ocean last Thursday night. We were surprise to see John and Carol Larimore came at the restaurant. We were almost finished with our dinner, when the Larimores came in. However, we had a few minutes to chat and a photo shoot with them prior to our departure. Here are some photos of our lobster and Calamari Dinner and with the Larimore on our way out. Notice the to GO bag on the table-it's my snack time of the left from our dinner.

Whole Main Lobster in Scallion and Ginger Sauce

The Lobster in Ginger and Scallion  sauce was delicious. The Calamari was plentiful, a little bit hard for my teeth but was very tasty.  Price Range is a little bit on the High Side compared to nearby Chinese Restaurants.

Meanwhile, here's the most recent review of the East Ocean Sea Food Restaurant. The range from

 4 to 5 stars.

1. SUPER happy East Ocean has my mom's favorite dish: Bitter Melon Beef! We also ordered BBQ Pork Fried Rice, a family favorite. Everything we ordered was delicious! "ding ho".

2. Just had a Doordash dinner order delivered from East Ocean. I have found my go-to place for dry beef chow fun -- finally! East Ocean does it right with plenty of rice noodles and the flavor is spot on. (Too many other places give you too much bean sprouts and not enough noodles). The tofu and vegetables and the radish cakes are executed quite nicely, too. Great meal -- thank you East Ocean! Everything we have tried so far has been fantastic.

3. In general, the food was pretty good and the portion was decent, but the price point was to me a little higher than what I'm used to when it comes to Chinese food. But below is my review of two items that we ordered: Fried Chicken in Garlic Sauce: very delicious, and the flavor profile reminded me a lot of Korean style sweet soy fried chicken. I especially loved how thin the breading was on the chicken, and how tender and moist the chicken pieces were. It was like an elevated version of general tso's chicken. While the portion was pretty generous, the price point to me was really high at $19. Honey Pepper Angus Ribeye Beef: tender beef chunks in savory sauce, loaded with veggies including peppers and onions. While no doubt that this dish was good, I am not convinced that it was worth paying $25 for. I would probably not order this again, and instead try their other beef dishes priced lower to get a sense of comparison.

4. Been here a few times. The food is always great but is a little more on the expensive side compared to their Alameda location. I had to crispy pork belly and soy sauce chow mein. The Sui Mai here is good as well.

5. Same owners as the Alameda East Ocean. One person in our group preferred to eat outdoors so a large table was setup for us. I was very surprised that the restaurant did not have a line at opening like most dim sum restaurants in the Bay Area. The indoors was small but over time it seemed to fill up more. The selection of dim sum was much smaller than what I was used to. Ha gow and siu mai were good. The pork buns and chicken buns were decent but I would've liked to have seen more meat. The salt and pepper calamari was amazing like in Alameda. The pork belly was very fatty but tasty. Fried meat dumplings (hom suey gok) and fried bean paste (gin duey) we're good. Turnip cakes were great. Service was very attentive for our large group. Maybe for the Walnut Creek area, the menu was sufficient but I like more variety. The food and service of what we had were good!

Meanwhile, Last Sunday, I had a cravings for Tempura. Thanks to DoorDash, my Tempura cravings was  satiated by Hakashi Sushi. It was delivered right in my front door within 15 after I ordered it on-line.

Sultan Kudarat of Mindanao was a powerful leader who managed to keep the Spanish at bay for decades. He formed alliances with other Muslim sultans and waged a series of successful guerrilla campaigns. Kudarat led one of the longest resistance movements against the Spanish.
His ability to unite the Muslim sultans and his strong military tactics kept much of Mindanao free from Spanish rule for over 30 years. 🛡️🇵🇭

A Review of the Movie, Emilia Perez

I watch the Emilia Perez movie at our Cinema last Saturday. I suggested this move to Eric, Our THD movie Coordinator. I enjoyed the movie very much. Although, the ending was tragic, the music and the story line is compelling and current. It won the Golden Globe Award and I feel it would be also nominated for the Oscar. I have a feeling it will also win the Oscar. Oscar Nominations will be announced Thursday. Watch and see if my guess is right!

Emilia Pérez (Latin American Spanish: [eˈmilja Ëˆpeɾes]) is a 2024 French Spanish-language musical crime comedy film written and directed by Jacques Audiard. The French production is based on Audiard's opera libretto of the same name, which was in turn loosely adapted from Boris Razon's 2018 novel Ã‰coute. The film stars Zoe SaldañaKarla Sofía GascónSelena GomezAdriana PazMark Ivanir, and Ã‰dgar Ramírez.

The film follows a Mexican cartel leader (Gascón) who enlists a lawyer (Saldaña) to help the leader disappear by transitioning into a woman. Its original songs were written by Camille, while its original score was provided by Clément Ducol. Filming took place from May to July 2023 in ÃŽle-de-France. The choreographic sections of the film are designed by Damien Jalet.

The film had its world premiere on 18 May 2024 at the main competition of the 77th Cannes Film Festival, where it competed for the Palme d'Or, winning the Jury Prize and the Best Actress award for its female ensemble. It was theatrically released by Pathé in France on 21 August 2024. It became the second most-nominated film in Golden Globe history with ten nominations at the 82nd ceremony, winning four, including Best Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy (the first time a non-English-language film won the category) and Best Foreign Language Film, while Gascón became the first trans woman to be nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture – Musical or Comedy. Additionally, it was named one of the top 10 films of 2024 by the American Film Institute, and was selected as the French entry for Best International Feature Film at the 97th Academy Awards

The following is one of the reviews that I agree and concur 100%.

"Emilia Pérez is a bold and masterfully crafted film that addresses pressing socio-political issues in Mexico, blending serious themes with musical elements in an innovative and thought-provoking way. As a keen amateur researcher, I appreciate the movie’s nuanced exploration of topics such as the devastating impact of drug cartels, rampant violence, systemic corruption, missing persons, and the fragility of societal structures in Mexico. These realities are seamlessly intertwined with the delicate and often controversial subject of LGBTQ+ rights, particularly transgender issues, creating a compelling narrative that promotes inclusivity. The plot follows the remarkable transformation of Emilia Pérez, a former drug cartel leader who transitions into a cultured woman, determined to atone for her past sins and become a savior to the very community she once ravaged. The film’s central irony lies in Emilia’s eventual demise—her tragic end serves as a powerful reminder of karmic justice. Emilia’s trusted lawyer, Rita (played by Zoe Saldana), fulfills her lifelong dream of motherhood by caring for Emilia’s children while preserving her legacy of hope and redemption within the Mexican community. The cast is extraordinary. Zoe Saldana delivers a phenomenal performance as Rita, perfectly capturing the complexity of her character. Selena Gomez adds depth and star power, while Karla Sofía Gascón, herself a transgender woman, brings authenticity and emotional resonance to the story. The music and choreography are equally mesmerizing, enhancing the film’s emotional impact and artistic brilliance. Emilia Pérez is a cinematic masterpiece that combines action, music, and social commentary into a seamless and unforgettable experience. It’s a thought-provoking film that challenges societal norms and fosters empathy and understanding. The awards it has garnered are well-deserved, and I applaud the writers, cast, and crew for their outstanding efforts. This is a must-watch for anyone who values storytelling at its finest".

Incidentally, the THD Movie Listing for Jan 20-26 looks great based on the Reviews. The Movies, NR 24, A Real Pain and Widow Clicqout are rated from 3.5 to 4.5 Stars out of 5.0. The movie, Golden Years that I viewed last night had only a 3.0 rating, but I enjoyed it.

Lastly, the planet alignment has started....

The much-anticipated planet alignment of 2025 has started. To catch this celestial alignment, look toward the southwestern horizon as twilight gives way to darkness.
Venus and Saturn will dazzle together, with Venus shining as the brighter beacon. Above them, Jupiter, recently past its opposition, radiates as the second brightest point of light after Venus, offering an excellent opportunity for naked-eye observation.
Mars, with its signature red glow, is unmissable near the eastern horizon. This January is a prime time for viewing the Red Planet, as it grows brighter ahead of its closest approach to Earth in over two years. That peaked on January 15, when it reached opposition. However, the views will be spectacular for a few more weeks.

For those with a telescope or binoculars, Uranus can be spotted near Jupiter, while Neptune sits close to Venus and Saturn, completing this celestial spectacle.

Eleven Challenges of Being Eighty or Older

A couple of weeks ago, I posted on some common misconceptions/misunderstanding of people who are 80 years old or older. Todays' posting is on the 11 challenges of being 80 or older. If you are in this group, I hope you find this article useful. Let me hear from you via comments.

Fellow Residents Here at THD attending a Hannukah Celebration, December 30, 2024

I found the following article on my FB page the other day. Having just turned 90 last December 20, this article I can definitely identify with. It is with great pleasure to share this article with my readers all over the world who are now 80 years old or older.  I like to hear from you, if you find this article relevant in your daily life if you are 80 years old or older, assuming you are still using the Internet.

Reaching 80 years old or Older is a remarkable milestone.

It’s a reflection of a life filled with experiences, lessons, and countless memories. However, with this stage of life comes unique challenges that can affect physical health, emotional well-being, and daily living.

Understanding these difficulties is essential for those in their 80s or older, as well as for their loved ones, to ensure this chapter of life remains fulfilling.

Here are 11 common challenges faced by individuals at 80 years old or older and practical ways to address them.

1. Physical Health Decline

As people age, physical capabilities may decrease, making daily tasks more demanding than before.

At 80 or older, the body naturally becomes less resilient, and activities like walking, climbing stairs, or even getting out of bed can require more effort.

Conditions like joint discomfort, muscle weakness, and reduced flexibility are common and can impact mobility.  Persistent tiredness can make it more difficult to sustain previous activity levels.

Although these changes are a normal part of aging, they can be frustrating. Maintaining a routine of light exercise, such as stretching, yoga, or walking, can help preserve strength and flexibility.

Regular check-ups with a healthcare provider can also catch potential issues early and ensure proper management of any conditions.

2. Adjusting to Changing Roles in the Family

As people reach their 80s or older, their role within the family dynamic often shifts.

They may no longer be the primary decision-makers or caregivers and instead rely more on younger family members for support.

This adjustment can feel unfamiliar, especially for those who are used to being independent or central to family matters. Balancing the desire to maintain authority and autonomy with the need to embrace support can be challenging.

Open communication, setting boundaries, and finding ways to stay involved in family activities can help ease this transition.  It’s a reminder that wisdom and experience are valuable contributions that continue to shape the family’s story.

3. Memory and Cognitive Changes

At 80 or older, it’s common to notice changes in memory and cognitive abilities. Forgetting names, losing track of time, or misplacing items can become more frequent.

While these changes are often a natural part of aging, they can be distressing and lead to feelings of frustration. Engaging in mental exercises such as puzzles, reading, or learning new skills can help keep the mind active. ( For Me, playing Bridge four days in the week).

Staying socially engaged and maintaining a routine can also support cognitive health.

If memory concerns become more serious, seeking professional evaluation and support can help address these challenges early.

4. Social Isolation

Social isolation is one of the most significant challenges faced by people in their 80s or older. As friends, family, or peers pass away or move away, social circles can shrink dramatically.

Physical limitations or hearing challenges can create barriers to participating in social activities or nurturing relationships.

This isolation often leads to feelings of loneliness, which can contribute to depression and anxiety. Staying connected to loved ones is essential.

This might involve regular phone calls, video chats, or visits with family.

Joining community groups or senior organizations can also provide opportunities to meet new people and build meaningful connections.  Pets can be another source of companionship, offering comfort and reducing feelings of loneliness.

5. Loss of Independence

The loss of independence can be one of the most emotionally challenging aspects of aging.

Tasks that were once simple, like cooking, cleaning, or driving, may now require assistance. Having to rely on family members, caregivers, or assisted living facilities can lead to feelings of helplessness or embarrassment.

For some, this change in autonomy can affect their self-esteem and overall happiness. Maintaining a sense of control over daily life is crucial.

Using adaptive tools such as walkers, grab bars, or specialized kitchen gadgets can help older adults retain independence in small but meaningful ways.

Additionally, seeking help when needed doesn’t diminish personal value; it’s a practical way to ensure safety and comfort.

6. Financial Strain

Living on a fixed income, such as Social Security or retirement savings, can present financial challenges for people in their 80s or older.  Unexpected expenses, such as medical bills, home repairs, or long-term care, can quickly strain budgets.

This financial pressure may limit opportunities for leisure activities, travel, or even basic needs. Planning ahead is key.

Working with a financial advisor or exploring government programs designed for seniors can provide additional support.

Many communities offer resources like subsidized housing, transportation services, or meal programs to help ease financial burdens.  By staying proactive and exploring available options, financial stress can be reduced.

7. Managing Grief and Loss

By the time someone reaches their 80s or older, they have likely experienced significant losses. The death of a spouse, close friends, or siblings can leave a deep emotional void.

Coping with grief at this stage of life is especially challenging as these losses can feel cumulative, compounding over time.  Memories of loved ones can bring both comfort and sadness, creating a bittersweet emotional landscape.

Acknowledging grief and finding ways to process it is essential for emotional well-being. Support groups, counseling, or simply sharing stories with family members can help ease the burden of loss.

Honoring the memories of those who have passed, such as creating a photo album or writing about them, can be a meaningful way to keep their presence alive.

8. Feeling Overlooked or Invisible

At 80 or older, many people feel overlooked or invisible in a society that often prioritizes youth and productivity. They might notice that their opinions are dismissed, or they’re treated as though their contributions no longer matter.

This lack of recognition can lead to feelings of frustration, sadness, or a diminished sense of self-worth. It’s important to remember that every stage of life offers value.

Sharing wisdom and experiences through mentoring, volunteering, or storytelling can help restore a sense of purpose and connection.

Communicating openly with loved ones about these feelings can also encourage more understanding and engagement.

9. Navigating Technology

The rapid evolution of technology has made the world more connected, but for older adults, it can feel like an overwhelming barrier. Smartphones, computers, and online services are often unfamiliar, making it difficult to stay connected with family, manage finances, or access healthcare resources.

This digital divide can lead to feelings of frustration and isolation. Taking small steps to learn new technology can make a big difference. Many libraries, community centers, or senior organizations offer classes specifically designed to teach older adults how to use digital tools.

Asking younger family members for patient guidance can also make navigating technology less intimidating.

10. Adapting to Physical Changes in Appearance

Aging brings inevitable changes in physical appearance, including wrinkles, gray hair, and weight fluctuations. While these changes are natural, they can still impact self-esteem, particularly in a society that often equates beauty with youth.

At 80 or older, you might feel less confident about how you look or worry about how others perceive you. Instead of focusing on external changes, shifting attention to inner qualities like kindness, wisdom, and resilience can help maintain a positive self-image.

Surrounding yourself with people who value you for who you are rather than how you look can also foster a sense of confidence and acceptance.

11. Preparing for End-of-Life Decisions

By the time someone reaches their 80s or older, thoughts about end-of-life planning often become more pressing. Tasks like writing a will, organizing finances, and making healthcare preferences known are essential but can feel emotionally overwhelming.

It’s not easy to confront one’s mortality, but doing so provides peace of mind and ensures that your wishes are respected.  Discussing these topics openly with family members can help ease the process and prevent misunderstandings later on.

Working with legal and financial professionals can also ensure that everything is organized and clearly documented. Preparing for the future allows you to focus on enjoying the present and cherishing time with loved ones.

Final Thoughts

Being 80 years old or older comes with a unique set of challenges, but it’s also a time for reflection, growth, and connection.

While physical, emotional, and social obstacles may arise, addressing them with resilience and a support network can lead to a fulfilling life.  Embracing change, seeking help when needed, and focusing on the positives can make this chapter of life a meaningful and rewarding experience.

Every stage of life has its difficulties, but it also brings opportunities to learn, grow, and inspire others. At 80 or older, you have a lifetime of wisdom and stories to share—let that be your source of strength and pride.
