Frustrated with the Impeachment Process? Clean-up your Closet

Not Happy with the Impeachment Process? Do Something Constructive by Cleaning your Closet/House

I started cleaning my closet today and found out I have 20 belts.

I have done constructive work today-getting rid of my residual anger and frustration from the impeachment trial by cleaning my closet.

I have decided to donate 250 ties from my 300 ties collection that I started in 1964. Parting it was just like losing part of my life. My son and wife had been urging me to give it away to Good Will or Salvation Army for the last couple of years, since I had not used a tie since my retirement from FDA in 2002. The collection is just occupying needed space in my closet. So today, I unwillingly donated 250 ties, but I kept 50 most colorful ties in my closet.

One of the 50 remaining ties has a painting of nude woman, several others have art and embroidered flower designs, and another has the face of Marilyn Monroe. Looking at them reminded me of my professional career from 1964 to 2002. Nostalgic memories, Indeed!

Memories of Our Four Seasons in the East Coast

Yesterday and today : Snow in the Sierra's and Lake Tahoe, but sunny and cold here in the Sacramento suburbs. This weather reminded me of the four seasons in the East Coast suburbs of Washington DC)-our residence for 12 years in the late 1990's.

Unlike Northern California, the East Coast has four distinct seasons almost every year. The photos below show the various colors( except for the autumn leaves) specific for each season in the front and backyard of our house in Hammonton Rd, Colesville, Maryland. Pleasant Memories, Indeed!

Seasons and Climate of the Philippines

The recent volcanic eruption of Taal reminded me of questions from friends and neighbors about the climate in the Philippines. Besides the typhoons, earthquakes, the Philippines has several volcanoes that are active.  Otherwise, here is

a video on the Climate of the Philippines

https://youtu.be/4Xl3lQoT9Vo

The climate of the country is divided into two main seasons:
  1. The rainy season, from June to the early part of October;
  2. the dry season, from the later part of October to May. The dry season may be subdivided further into (a) the cool dry season, from the later part of October to February; and (b) the hot dry season, from March to May. The months of April and May, the hot and dry months when schools are on their long break between academic years, is referred to as summer while in most of the northern hemisphere those months are part of spring.

Macrine and I and the 4D's- A few Years Ago

The recent deaths of a number of our colleagues (even younger than us) reminded me of how lucky Macrine and I to still be alive, although showing our aging years. Every morning when I wake up,  I give thanks to the Lord.  Here are some of our photos a few years back.

New Recipe for Salmon Head Fish Soup with Vegetables

Salmon Head with Mixture of Vegetables

The other day, I cooked salmon head fish soup with okra, green beans, boctoy, celery, potatoes, sweet onions and tomatoes in Tamarind sauce.  It was similar to my recipe posted in my site at bottom of this page. The difference is fresh okra from my garden this year.

Most of my American friends, children and grand children are turn off when they see fish heads. But for most Asians, fish heads are reserved for the most important person at the food table. When I was growing up in the Philippines fish heads were reserved for my Dad or for the guest of honor at dinner time.

If there are more than one, it is offered to the next person in rank in the family. As the oldest child, I was 3rd in priority in our family, next to my Dad and Mom, I get the third fish head for dinner.  The other parts of the fish are for other members of the family.

Fish head soup ( sinigang) is a delicacy in the Philippines and one of the most common dishes in an oriental family's diet. My favorite fish head soup besides salmon is the head of bingao, an big ocean fish that belongs to the red snapper family.

However, to most non-Asians fish head soup is not for human consumption and just looking at the fish head disgust them.   My US born children and grand children do not eat fish head soup, but they love salmon steaks or red snapper fillet. Of course they love Fish and Chips.

Here's my original recipe for salmon head Fish soup with vegetables

The soup I placed in a Separate Plate
Fish is one of healthy foods that contain high of protein but low in fat. It comes with omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins such as D and B2 (riboflavin), calcium, phosphorus and minerals such as iron, zinc, iodine, magnesium and potassium. In addition, fish has many types and some of fishes are important for the health of the body. With those essential nutrients, every part of the fish is being consumed, especially for the head.  The head of the fish can be consumed with several recipes, including by making fish head soup. The soup is now become popular due to its delicious taste. However, not only having a good taste, the soup contains many health benefits. For details of the benefits of fish head soup read:
